What would it have been like to dine on the Titanic on that fateful night etched in history? How did it feel to be aboard the ‘Ship of Dreams’? What was on the menu? What were the sights, sounds, smells, and experiences of the last meal served before Titanic hit the iceberg, and took her final journey to the bottom of the ocean?
For the first time in Sheffield, the Double Tree Hilton by Sheffield Park hotel invites you to step aboard on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th March 2023, as it hosts a fully immersive event of the Titanic’s last supper. Brought to you by Histoire Productions, The Queen of the Ocean, is a captivating theatrical evening that brings history to life, with a poignant and unique re-enactment of the final 24 hours of the RMS Titanic.
The experience begins with unique correspondence sent to guests with every ticket purchase, containing a letter from the captain and a boarding pass, based on the same design used in 1912. The night is led by none other than Captain Edward Smith, and inside, the Hotel is transformed into his famous ship with theatrical set pieces and interactive installations. These include a cold-water tank with water chilled to the same temperature as the sea on April 14th, 1912, and a Morse Code machine with instructions on how to send an SOS message.
Enjoy a selection of canapes and drinks before being seated for a menu based upon an actual menu discovered in the pocket of a first-class survivor. Seated in the Ocean Class liner’s dining room, one of elegance and opulence with world class cuisine, you’ll enjoy poached salmon mousseline, chicken lyonnaise and Waldorf pudding – whilst actors play out the final 24 hours all around your table. The theatre experience continues with characters representing the crew from different classes, showing how their evening unfolds in comparison to the enjoyment being had by the first-class passengers.
Daniel Rich, general manager, from the Double Tree by Hilton Sheffield Park says: “With original script and score, morse code, survivor testimony and so much more, we are incredibly excited to invite guests aboard to step back in time with us. Diners can expect to sample delicious dishes recreated from the era, alongside an emotionally rousing experience during this first-class event.”
